adidas Is Releasing Yeezys Again

The chaos surrounding the artist known formerly known as Kanye West is moving into a new chapter this month with the return of Yeezy sneakers. After months of rumors that adidas was sitting on over a billion dollars worth of Yeezys, House of Heat is reporting that adidas will be releasing the remaining inventory from the now-defunct partnership between Ye and The Three Stripes.

Since adidas ended the contract with Ye back in October of last year, the footwear giant has been sitting on $1.3 billion worth of Yeezy inventory. The wrench in the story is that adidas would owe 15% of the revenue for every pair of Yeezy shoes sold if they were to decide to sell them. The debacle has been the debate of the sneaker world for those that still have interest in Yeezys, and undeniably has been a big reason behind adidas’ recent quarterly losses of over $400 million dollars. After months of indecision, and a lot of back and forth both internally and on earnings calls, adidas is set to sell the remaining Yeezy inventory before the end of the month.

According to Hypebeast, the company actually has around $500 million worth of Yeezy inventory, and the new deal is now believed to see the sale of select non-branded YEEZY sneakers with no new designs to be produced. While early reports mentioned that the proceeds from these sales would be donated to a worthy cause determined by adidas, it’s still not clear if that is true. As for the kicks, the list of releases includes a number of styles including the original “Pirate Black” Yeezy 350, the “Zebra” 350 V2, Yeezy 700 colorways, a number of Foam Runners, and more.

The real question is, do Yeezys still matter to sneakerheads or has the game moved on to the next trend?

Time will tell.
